On Monday, October 31st, Pisgah High School held their annual basketball tryouts. Basketball is one of Pisgah High’s main sports and when the games begin the gym is always packed. These tryouts are nerve racking for students as coaches Brandon Holloway and Casey Kruk pick the players they think will best benefit each team.

Pisgah High has always prided itself on its superb athletics, especially basketball. In recent history we have had many good athletes go through the basketball program like Brooklyn Allen, who now plays at Appalachian State University, and Cole Anderson, who now plays at Milligan College. This season will be different than normal because Pisgah has received the biggest class of freshmen in recent years, and many of those freshmen are very gifted with athleticism.

The season will begin in about two weeks and head Coaches Holloway and Kruk are preparing the girls and boys as much as possible so that Pisgah can start the season off right. This preparation includes drills, fundamental plays, and the least liked, conditioning. But in the words of freshman MaeAnna Norris, “It was a lot of fun and I am excited about this season.” So the Black Bears are looking forward to a potentially great season as tryouts begin.
